'Barbarella' TV series set for Amazon

Pop heroine, Barbarella will be coming to Amazon Instant streaming, the company is currently in production on a pilot for the show which would air on their instant stream network.

Deadline reported that the script will be written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who are known for their work on Skyfall. The search is currently underway for a showrunner and none of the main cast has yet to be announced.

Executive producers for the upcoming project will be Martha De Laurentiis and Nicolas Winding Refn. Refn is attached to the project as a director.

Barbarella is a character that was created by Jean-Claude Forest in a graphic novel. Once Jane Fonda took on the role in a 1968 sci-fi film, the character became a phenomena.

Ever since the 1968 sci-fi film, there has been talk of a reboot for either the big screen or television, ComingSoon.net added.

Amazon Studios has five drama and a few comedy pilots in production for their instant streaming channels. The first two original programs to launch were Betas and Alpha House.
