A recap of the 2014 Grammy Awards

The 56th annual Grammy awards took place Sunday night, and it was an event to remember. The night started out with the red carpet, where the fashion took charge. Taylor Swift stunned in a floor-length silver Gucci gown. Katy Perry, who is known for her quirky red carpet style, wore a music note printed Valentino gown. Madonna showed up in a Ralph Lauren suit that matched her son, David’s, who was her date for the night. Ciara debuted her baby bump in a curve-hugging gold Emilio Pucci gown. A big trend for the men of the evening was velvet suits, which were worn by Robin Thicke, Macklemore, and host L.L Cool J. The talk of the night, though, was Pharrell Willams, who showed up in jeans, a track jacket, and a giant hat.

Beyonce and Jay Z opened the show with a performance of “Drunk in Love” off of Beyonce’s new album. Other noteworthy performances of the night included Lorde, who sang a slower version of her song “Royals,” Hunter Hayes who sang his new single, “Invisible” and John Legend gave a beautiful performance of his song “All of Me." Taylor Swift gave a head-banging performance of “All Too Well” and changed it up by taking a seat behind the piano. Pink did a gravity-defying performance of her song “Try,” then joined Nate Ruess on stage to sing their song “Just Give Me a Reason."

The night also included many duet performances. Robin Thicke performed with legendary band, Chicago, Keith Urban and Gary Clark, Jr., Pharrell Williams, Daft Punk and Stevie Wonder, and Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited on stage once again to perform “Queenie Eye." Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed their hit song “Same Love" and were joined on stage by Queen Latifah, who officiated in marrying 33 couples during the performance. Madonna later joined them and sang her song “Open Your Heart" and the performance ended with a standing ovation from the audience.
