Bill Cosby returning to NBC in new family comedy

By Marie Blake,

Bill Cosby is returning to NBC with a new family comedy in the works.

After more than 20 years since The Cosby Show ended on NBC, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Cosby has signed on to do a new comedy series with the network.

Cosby has teamed up with The Cosby Show producer Tom Werner to create a new family comedy series.

The show will center around Cosby and his multi-generational family, as they go through marriage and family life.

The show is currently searching for writers and is hoping to go into development outside of the time-frame that television pilots normally air.

Cosby told Yahoo! TV in November that he was interested in going back to TV.

"I want to be able to deliver a wonderful show to [a] network," Cosby said. "Because there is a viewership out there that wants to see comedy, and warmth, and love, and surprise, and cleverness, without going into the party attitude."

This news comes to light after NBC struggled to maintain it's comedy line-up. Its senior shows like Community and Parks and Recreation are still going strong, but the two freshman series, The Michael J. Fox Show and Sean Saves the World, are struggling with ratings.

NBC hopes to boost its comedy block once the new Cosby series is made.
