Billy Joel not retiring any time soon

While other singers stop preforming as they age, Billy Joel says that at 64 he is “un-retiring.”

According to CBS News, “The Piano Man” recently sold seats to over 15,000 fans, Monday night at Madison Square Garden (MSG), for the debut of his new monthly concert series.

The New York native told co-host of CBS This Morning, Charlie Rose, that he and his team “love the garden” and were excited to hear that they were being offered a monthly residency at the venue.

When he first heard the news, he told Rose, “So I go, ‘Wait a minute, that’s nice. That’s one place I don’t have to schelp to. I can commute to it from where I live.”

The “Uptown Girl” singer’s love for his profession was apparent and shows commitment to his new home at MSG.

“As long as there’s a ticket demand and as long as I’m physically capable of doing it, I’m going to be 65 years old. Most people retire at 65. I’m kind of un-retiring.”

However, that shouldn’t be a problem for the rock icon. Joel set a record in 2006 for selling 12 consecutive shows back-to-back and his new shows are booked through July.

Joel is having a busy year with not only the tour but also being featured on Barbara Streisand’s new album.
