CBS announces 50th anniversary Beatles event

In honor of the Beatles’ first American television appearance 50 years ago, CBS News will be celebrating the anniversary with a live multimedia event.

According to CBS News, on Sunday, Feb. 9, 50 Years: The Beatles will show at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York from 6:00-8:00 p.m. ET just as it did half a century ago, that day.

The anniversary event will be hosted by Anthony Mason, CBS News senior business correspondent and anchor of CBS This Morning: Saturday, and will be streaming live on two websites dedicated to the show, < href= http://www.cbsnews.com/feature/the-beatles-us-invasion-50-years/> CBSNews.com and CBSNewYork.com/50YearsLater.

CBS News President, David Rhodes, announced on Tuesday, “History was made 50 years ago in the Ed Sullivan Theater. Our reporting will help audiences reconnect to that day.”

Along with celebrating the birth of one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s, 50 Years: The Beatles will show rare footage of the four while in their first few days in New York City. The sites will also show the original appearance of the band when they performed on The Ed Sullivan Show 50 years ago on Feb. 9, 1964.

It was also announced on Tuesday that the websites will be showing archival radio interviews, photo galleries and celebrating the cultural influence of the band.
