Celebrity Birthdays, January 17: Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschanel, Betty White

Actor Jim Carrey, actress Zooey Deschanel, and actress Betty White are all celebrating their birthdays today.

Jim Carrey, who has starred in popular comedies since the 1990s, turned 52 today. Carrey's career took off after he starred in his first leading role in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Carrey also starred in other movies such as Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar and The Mask.

Carrey's acting has not been limited to comedies though. He also starred in more serious films such as The Truman Show and Man on the Moon.

Carrey is scheduled to star in Dumb and Dumber To, reprising his role as Lloyd Christmas with his co-star Jeff Daniels returning in his role as Harry Dunne. The movie is expected to be released in November 2014.

Zooey Deschanel turned 33 today. Deschanel is well-known for her acting through film and television. Her breakout role came in the movie Almost Famous. This helped launch her into other major films such as Elf, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Yes Man and (500) Days of Summer.

In 2011, Deschanel began starring in her first major television role in New Girl as Jess Day. She has since received seven nominations, including an Emmy, Golden Globe and People's Choice Award. These nominations include winning a Critics' Choice Television Award and a TV Guide Award, each in 2012.

Deschanel is also well-known for her singing ability, which she showcased in Elf by singing "Baby It's Cold Outside." She currently performs in the indie duo She and Him on vocals.

Betty White turned 92 today. White has had an extensive acting career filled with awards won on shows such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, for which she won an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress twice in a row.

White also won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for The Golden Girls in 1986. She was also nominated for The Golden Girls six times in a row for the same award after winning it.

She also became the oldest person to host Saturday Night Live in 2010 and won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance.
