The American Hustle director is reportedly in talks with Fox 2000 to direct a biopic about Joy Mangano, the creator of the Miracle Mop.
He is also rumored to be eying Lawrence to star as Mangano in the film, according to Deadline, who first reported the news.
This would be the third time the pair have worked together. The two previously worked on 2012's Silver Lining's Playbook, as well as American Hustle in 2013.
According to New York Daily News, the film, which currently does not have a title, is written by Annie Mumolo, the writer of Bridesmaids, and tells the story of Mangano, who created the self-wringing mop in order to support her three children.
Russell speaks highly of Lawrence, saying "she's a smart girl. You can feel this enormous tsunami of energy crushing in around her as the world, the world does that."
Russell has directed many films, some of which include Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees and The Fighter.
Lawrence won the Best Actress Academy Award last year for Silver Linings Playbook.
