Denis Leary is set to star in the FX greenlit pilot Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll that he wrote the script for.
Leary previously worked with FX on seven seasons of his critically-acclaimed firefighter drama Rescue Me that he co-created, starred in and executive produced, reports Variety.
The comedian spoke of the new show saying, "I am very excited to be returning to FX where working with (FX execs) Nick (Grad), Eric (Schrier) and John Landgraf has been one of best creative experiences of my life. Plus I hear they have much better swag now."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX president of original programming Schrier said in a statement, "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll is a terrific script and concept with Denis Leary's signature brand of comedy."
The greenlit pilot will follow Leary's main character of Johnny Rock, who is a washed up rock musician whose love of drugs and alcohol got him in trouble with his band, not to mention sleeping with his lead guitarist's wife, and they broke up as they released their only album. Now, Rock is looking to try and get the band back together many years later.
If the show gets a series order, the plan is to have real rock stars occasionally appear on the show as well as feature original music.
