Venezuelan soccer star Juan Pablo Galavis will be gracing American TV screens starting Monday, Jan. 6, starring in the new season of the hit series The Bachelor. Juan Pablo is the 17th Bachelor in 18 seasons of the show.
Galavis appeared on Desiree Hartsock's season of The Bachelorette. He is the first Latino to be featured on The Bachelor. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Galavis said, "I am the Bachelor, and I am a Latino, and obviously it’s going to be me," he told reporters during a recent conference call.
Galavais, 32, has been receiving positive feedback from the Latino community. During the show he will get a chance to know the 27 bachelorettes and find a potential soul mate. Galavis admitted that meeting the women on his first night of filming was "overwhelming." Previous bachelors have decided to get married on TV, but Galavis is not so sure.
The television show, The Bachelor, has garnered high Nielsen ratings, according to Variety. In 2013, the two-hour season finale of The Bachelor averaged had 10.0 million viewers overall.
