The final casting for FX’s Hoke pilot is set. Paul Giamatti stars in the drama based on Charles Willeford’s novel series.
Giamatti joined the pilot in August and will play Miami detective Hoke Moseley, who is probably a little nuts. The series is set in the 1980s. In a statement posted at TVByTheNumbers, FX said that production will start in the spring on location.
Scott Frank wrote the pilot and will be the showrunner with David Manson if it is picked up. The rest of the executive producing team includes Curtis Hanson, Carol Fenelon, Giamatti and Dan Carey. The series is based on the novels Sideswipe, New Hope for the Dead and The Way We Die Now, all written by Willeford.
The major addition to the casting is Oona Chaplin, who is best known for recently starring on Game of Thrones. As Entertainment Weekly notes, she will play Hoke’s new partner, a young detective.
John Carroll Lynch, who last appeared on ABC’s Body of Proof and NBC’s short-lived Do No Harm, will be a former partner of Hoke’s.
The Wire veteran Robert Wisdom was cast as the chief of the Miami Police Homicide Squad. Riddick’s Jordi Mollà will play a Cuban who arrives in Miami and pretends to be a popular poet. Emmy winner Tammy Blanchard will be a mother whose son was a drug addict and is murdered.
