Wednesday’s premiere of the new season of American Idol, featuring returning judges Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez, who took a year off before coming back for the 13th season, proved Harry Connick Jr. won America’s hearts over as a new judge.
It’s now being revealed by head of NBC’s alternative and late night programming department, Paul Telegdy, that he turned down a job at NBC to be a judge on America’s Got Talent.
“We always had our eye out for him as a judge on America's Got Talent,” Telegdy told TVPage.com. “He turned us down. We know he is a player. He is a great musician.”
He added, “He’s a singer. Look, these things happen. Timing is nearly always the [problem].”
According to E! Online, Connick Jr. made no mention of NBC’s offer while talking to reporters at the TCA press tour last week.
When he was asked if he’s ever been approached to do another reality show, he said "No….I mean, maybe something out of the country but not here."
