On Thursday, at their Television Critics Association panel, HBO announced the premiere date for the upcoming season of Game of Thrones and that the fifth season of Boardwalk Empire would be the show's last.

In less happy news, the cable pay network said that the upcoming fifth season of Boardwalk Empire will be the last, according to Variety.
During the TCA panel, announcing the end of Boardwalk, HBO president of programming, Micheal Lombardo, praised the show and it's creator, noting that creator Terry Winters "created one for the ages."
"We're thrilled to get the go-ahead for a fifth season of Boardwalk Empire," Winter told the press. "After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we've decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion."
