Hilary Duff and husband Mike Cromrie didn't take their decision to separate lightly as they attended couples counseling as they looked to find a way to stay together.
A source told Us Weekly, that the Lizzie McGuire actress "felt he didn't put enough effort into the relationship” towards the end.
Though the former pro hockey player didn't put effort into keeping their marriage working. Duff did speak positively about Comrie’s skills as a parent. According to New York Daily News, Duff said, "He's an amazing father. He's so patient and loving and involved. He's all the things that I knew that he would be."
Their separation comes just shy of their young son's, Luca, second birthday. However, for his sake they will remain close friends.
When the former Disney star and former hockey player made the announcement, Duff tweeted this:
Mike and I are sitting here,we are so appreciative for all of your kindness& well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together
