The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has earned the rights to be called the most pirated movie of 2013. The film stars Martin Freeman playing the iconic role of Bilbo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings prequel.

Torrent Freak reported that the first Hobbit film was pirated the most out of any film in 2013, being downloaded over eight million times. The spike in pirating might be a result of fans wanting to get ready for the second installment of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which was released in theaters this past December.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opened in theaters in December of 2012, and made more than $1 billion worldwide at the box office,
The Huffington Post reported.

Rounding out the top five for most downloaded films included Fast & Furious 6, Django Unchained, Iron Man 3 and Silver Linings Playbook.

In 2012 the most pirated movie was Project X, which was downloaded over 8.7 million times. The film was not well received by critics and made $103 million at the box office.
