James Marsden is in early talks to replace Paul Walker in The Best of Me, a new adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel.
The Best of Me follows a pair of former high school sweethearts in a small North Carolina town. The film will be produced by Sparks, as well as Ryan Kavanaugh and Theresa Park. Michelle Monaghan is set to play the female lead.
As Marsden is just beginning negotiations, final confirmation on the male lead has not yet been reached, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Marsden has been one to watch, previously appearing in Anchorman 2 and Lee Daniels' The Butler and 2 Guns.
Paul Walker, the actor originally slated to play the role, died in a tragic car crash on Nov. 30. He was a passenger in an automobile in Los Angeles, and died after the car lost control.
Walker, 40, was known for his work in Fast and Furious 7. He was slated to work on several upcoming projects including The Best of Me and Agent 47. His commitment to movies often moved the picture to the next level of production, according to Variety.
