Jay-Z, Will Smith, and Calvin Harris team up for a new comedy show

Jay-Z, Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Grammy award-winning DJ Calvin Harris have worked out a deal with HBO to help produce a variety show based on the world that is electronic dance music.

According to Deadline, the show, which is named Higher, will be written by Trainspotting novelist Irvine Welsh. James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith, Miguel Melendez, Mark Gillespie, Dean Wilson, Calvin Harris Jay-Z, Jay Brown, and Tyran Smith will be producers for the show.

Spin reports that this project will deepen the working relationship between Jay-Z and Will Smith. They are both also involved in the upcoming remake of the musical Annie, that stars Quvenzhané Wallis, Jamie Foxx, and Cameron Diaz.

Spin also notes that Harris, who was referred to by Forbes Magazine as 2013's “Electronic Cash King,” is not the only DJ in the limelight this year. Diplo, front man of Major Lazer, was said to be working on an EDM version of the film 8 Mile.
