During an interview with 12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen for Interview magazine, Kanye West is opening up about getting over the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards incident involving interrupting Taylor Swift.
In the February issue of the magazine, West said to come to terms with his antics he needed “God, sex, and alcohol.”
“I don’t have an addictive personality, so that means that I can lean on what might be someone else’s vice just enough to make it through to the next day,” he explained. “You know, just enough religion, a half-cup of alcohol with some ice in it and a nice chaser, and then … a lot of sex.”
It wouldn’t be a West interview without some boasting, so he did talk about his art background and even referred to himself as a child “prodigy.”
“I'm a trained fine artist. I went to art school from the time I was five years old. I was, like, a prodigy out of Chicago,” he said, adding, that he was in national competitions by the age of 14.
“I got three scholarships to art schools ... and I went to the American Academy of Art. So the joke that I've actually played on everyone is that the entire time, I’ve actually just been a fine artist. I just make sonic paintings, and these sonic paintings have led me to become whatever people think of when you say "Kanye West."'
When talking about being famous, West said he relies on his “astronaut family,” because being in the public eye is like being “catapulted into space.”
