Prosecutors say that a man who tried to intervene and stop a catfight between five women was fatally shot in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn over something as ridiculous as hair extensions.
According to the New York Daily News, Denzel Holder of Carteret, N.J., is on trial for the second-degree murder of Shawn Williams.
Prosecutors contended that back in August of 2011, Williams tried to break up a fight with his girlfriend and several other women over a hair weave. Holder was dating one of the women involved in the brawl and allegedly shot Williams twice in his back.
“If it was not such a tragic incident, we would probably laugh about it because it’s so pathetic,” Assistant District Attorney Edward Purce told the jury on Thursday.
WRAL reported that after the 27-year-old victim was gunned down, the 19-year-old Holder was arrested in North Carolina and extradited back to New York.
If Holder is convicted of the charge, he faces 25 years to life in prison.
His defense lawyer maintains that his client was not the shooter.
