Three people are confirmed dead following a shooting at the Mall of Columbia in Maryland.
Howard County Police believe that the shooter is one of the dead, reports Reuters. Police were summoned to the mall shortly before noon by a 911 call claiming that someone was shooting in the Mall of Columbia.
According to CNN, none of the deceased have been identified, but one body was found laying near ammunition and a gun.
The Howard County Police were updating the situation through Twitter and warned people away from the area for the time being. When they first arrived at the scene, the police said it was an active shooter situation, but Reuters notes mall shoppers were later allowed to leave.
Three witnesses at the mall spoke with NBC News, claiming that the weapon used by the suspect was a shotgun. Authorities have not confirmed the weapon used in the shooting.
Those inside hid in various stores throughout the mall during and after the shooting.
