Tyler Perry’s first movie of 2014, The Single Moms Club, hasn’t even been released but a series based on it is already on the way courtesy of Oprah Winfrey and Discovery Communication’s OWN network.
The Single Moms Club series will premiere in the fall and each episode will run an hour. The plot centers on a group of single mothers who are very different, but ate linked as members of a support group, where they deal with their struggles.
Perry has had an overall deal with OWN since 2012 and the relationship has been fruitful for both sides. Both the drama Haves and Have Nots and the sitcom Love Thy Neighbor have been successes for OWN and Perry.
As for the Single Moms movie, it opens on March 14.
OWN also announced three other shows, but the most interesting has to be Lindsay, a series chronicling Lindsay Lohan’s latest comeback attempt. The series, directed by Amy Rice, starts on March 9 at 10 p.m. Lohan’s mother, Dina, expressed confidence in Winfrey’s ability to be a “mentor” to her daughter, who has struggled with addiction in recent years.
The other two shows are Deion’s Family Playbook (March 1), with former NFL player Deion Sanders, and Love In The City (April 12), centering on the life of four friends in New York’s Harlem neighborhood.
