Pharrell Williams speechless over Oscar nomination

Pharrell Williams is known for his unique hip-hop, pop and rap driven sound. He has topped the charts with his group N.E.R.D. and has had an incredibly successful solo career. Williams is now celebrating a career first, being nominated for best original song at the Academy Awards.

Williams was nominated for his original song "Happy" which was featured in the family friendly animated film, Despicable Me 2.

Billboard reported that in a recent interview following the news breaking about the nomination Williams was left with few words. He said in reaction to the news ""Uh, speechless," Williams said. "I'm over the moon." A few moments later the question was asked what he was doing when the news broke, ""Man, I'm sorry, I don't know," said Williams.

BBC's Radio One added that Williams is not the only mainstream artists to share the Oscar spotlight. Also nominated is Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto for his work in Dallas Buyers Club.
