'Ride Along' tops box office weekend, toppling 'Jack Ryan'

The Kevin Hart and Ice Cube buddy comedy Ride Along has set box office records, making over $41.2 million. Ride Along took the number one spot at the box office, beating out Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

Ride Along is on track to have one of the largest openings in the month of January. The current holder of best opening for January was back in 2008 when the sci-fi drama, Cloverfield was released and made about $40.1 million.

Also opening in theaters this weekend was, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit the film stars Chris Pine as the late author Tom Clancy's fictional CIA analyst. The film took in $17.2 million over the first three days of the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, which landed the spy thriller at number four on the box office charts.

Reuters reported that Lone Survivor is also still doing very well in theaters. The war driven film is coming in second at the box office with $23.2 million this weekend.

USA Today added that most analysts' projections had the comedy only making around $27 million.

Hart has been receiving a lot of positive praise from critics regarding his comedic roll in the film.
