Samsung has announced that the Galaxy 5 and a new version of the Galaxy Gear will likely be released in April.
Executive Lee Young Hee confirmed to Bloomberg new iterations of the devices would be out in April. One new feature that could possibly be included in the Galaxy 5 is eye scanner technology, but no further explanation was given.
As the South Korean-based company suffered a drop in shares after reporting a slight profit decline for 2013, IBK Securites Co. analyst Lee Seung Woo said, "The release of the S5 will be very importnt to Samsung." He added, "Competition is going to intensify, and it's not going to be an easy year for the company."
Part of the profit decline is likely the result of the Galaxy 4 not knocking it out of the park, but rather suffering from the fact that it felt too similar to consumers as the S3. "When we moved to S4 from S3, it's partly true that consumers couldn't feel much difference between the two products from a physical perspective, so the market reaction wasn't as big."
Samsung also said that though the Galaxy Gear suffered from mixed reviews and weak sales, there would be a new version still coming out, notes Business Insider. The new version is supposed to be less bulkier and will hopefully fix some complaints reviewers had, like the weak battery life and better third-party integration.
