'Sherlock Holmes' director Guy Ritchie eyeing King Arthur film

Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie is reportedly interested in making a new film based off the famous King Arthur legend through the Warner Bros. studio.

The project that the British director is interested in would possibly be six films, according to Deadline, which first reported the news.

The film series would be based off a script from Joby Harold. The film is currently untitled and would be produced by Akiva Goldsman, notes Variety. Ritchie would also step in to produce, along with Lionel Wigram. The two often partner up to produce projects.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is interested in this latest attempt at covering the story of King Arthur after the last attempt was shelved. The studio had a script from writer John Hodge, but the budget was seen as too high and another studio had been gearing up to make their own.

The early budget that was sought was $130 million, which was $20 million more than Warner Bros. was willing to go. The film was titled Arthur & Lancelot, with Colin Farrell as Lancelot and Gary Oldman as Merlin.

Ritchie is currently working on the Henry Cavill film The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
