A 3-year-old autistic boy was left alone on a New Jersey school bus for nearly six hours in the frigid temperatures on Tuesday.
According to the MyCentralJersey, the boy’s mother, Mishiloh Akturk, received a call from the transportation office informing her that her son had spent the entire day on the bus still strapped into his seat.
“I never received a call from the school saying that he didn’t show up that day,” she said. “I got a call at about 2 p.m. saying he sat on the bus all day without heat or food or anything. I guess he fell asleep and was sitting in the back.”
The driver neglected the chance to check for children still on board the bus and has since been fired, NBC 4 reports.
The toddler was not discovered until the end of the day when the driver was preparing to do the return route.
Officials and Akturk are just glad the boy is OK after the whole ordeal.
