TV Ratings: 'Bachelor' starts off strong, 'Hostages' ends on a low note

By Kyle Johnson,

ABC had a decent night with the season premiere of The Bachelor as audiences were largely tuned in to the thrilling BCS Championship game between Florida State and Auburn.

ABC took Monday night in both key categories with an average of 8.58 million viewers and a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, leaving few to watch any other networks on the night, reports Hitfix. Between its two hours, The Bachelor saw a nice improvement from last year with a 2.7 in the demo. Castle did not get any help from its lead-in and was down to a 1.8 rating.

Fox came second in the ratings with a distant 1.3 demo rating and an even weaker 4.475 million. Almost Human was steady at a 1.7 in the demo and up slightly in viewership, while a Sleepy Hollow repeat got a rating of 0.8.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS was right on Fox's tail in the key 18-49 demo with 1.2, but was actually second in viewers with an average of 5.23 million viewers. An encore of 2 Broke Girls managed a 1.2 rating, while Hostages ended with a two-hour finale which only managed a 1.1 in the first hour. It dropped to tie a series low in the second with a 1.0.

NBC averaged a 1.0 in the demo and 2.74 million viewers on the back of three repeats from Blacklist . The CW also only played repeats and brought in 631,000 viewers and a 0.2 rating.
