According to WABC, the family of Harry Devert of Westchester, N.Y., has been pleading with the government to step up the search.
CNN reported that the last message Devert, 32, sent was via Whatsapp messenger to tell his girlfriend that the Mexican military was escorting him out of a dangerous area.
"Just got an hour and a half long escort out of some area it was too dangerous for me to be," his message read, according to CNN. "Stopping for lunch and ... voila Internet. ... Gonna get back on the road soon. Apparently there's another military escort waiting for me in some other town... I'm running way late because of the crazy military stuff...hopefully get a chance to talk to you tonight when I (hopefully) finally arrive."
The family has taken to the Internet and social media to spread the word and hopefully receive clues about Devert’s disappearance. They created a Facebook page to create more awareness.
On Saturday, a State Department representative confirmed that a U.S. citizen was missing in Michoacán, which is the last place the man was seen.
