'Big Bang Theory' star Jim Parsons to host 'Saturday Night Live' in March with musical guest Beck

By Brian Brown,

The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons will host Saturday Night Live for the first time when the show returns on March 1. He will be joined by musical guest Beck, who has appeared on the show six times, with his first coming in 1997 when Kevin Spacey hosted.

SNL is on a brief hiatus while NBC broadcasts the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. The last episode aired on Feb. 1, with host Melissa McCarthy and musical guest Imagine Dragons, who were joined by Kendrick Lamar.

The announcement was made Thursday on SNL's Twitter page.

Parsons has won three Emmy awards for playing theoretical physicist Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory. The actor was recently played by Jimmy Fallon in a Family Feud sketch when the new man behind the Tonight Show desk hosted in December with musical guest Justin Timberlake.

The show will also be the first for Colin Jost, who will join Cecily Strong on "Weekend Update," following Seth Meyers' departure. Jost was named Meyers' replacement last month.

Beck's new album Morning Phase is due out Feb. 25.

The Big Bang Theory will return Feb. 20 on CBS.
