Bret Easton Ellis talks film collaboration with Kanye West: The time frame is 'in Kanye-land'

Kanye West isn’t one to stifle his creativity, and he’s now channeling it into a new outlet with the help of screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis.

Ellis confirmed he and the Yeezus rapper were working on a film in a recent interview with Vice.

He was asked to give some details about the script, and Ellis said he simply couldn’t. “It’s in Kanye-land and that’s subject to a whole other timeframe. He came and asked me to write the film. I didn’t want to at first. Then I listened to Yeezus,” he said.

Ellis said he was so moved by the album “I thought, regardless of whether I’m right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this. So f--k it, I said yes. And that’s how it happened. That was seven or eight months ago. We’ll see what happens.”

West has declared his love for Ellis’ film American Psycho before. Back in June, West shot a video with his fiancé, Kim Kardashian’s sister Kourtney Kardashian’s longtime boyfriend Scott Disick. The video for “Black Skinhead” is inspired by the film.

Ellis went on to acknowledge West’s reputation, but said when you’re alone with him it’s “kind of mind-blowing.”
