Robyn Benson, 32, of Canada has been brain-dead since December and gave birth to her son on Sunday in Victoria, British Columbia. Shortly after, she was taken off life support by husband Dylan Benson.
“It is with a heavy heart but also with extreme proudness that I am posting this update...On Saturday evening, my beautiful and amazing son, Iver Cohen Benson, was born," her husband, Dylan Benson, wrote on Facebook.
He continued, "On Sunday, we had to unfortunately say goodbye to the strongest and most wonderful woman I have ever met. She will live on forever within Iver, and in my heart.”
The Benson couple married seven months before her death. Iver was born early at 28 weeks and a full term pregnancy lasts approximately 38 to 40 weeks. Robyn was on life support for six weeks and was left brain-dead after a brain hemorrhage.
According to Reuters, the Bensons' story reached people around the world. Donations towards baby Iver and his bills, supplies, and support funds so Dylan can have time at home has reached C$150,000 or $135,800 USD by Tuesday. That is far beyond his goal of C$36,000.
