‘Divergent’ sequel with Shailene Woodley to be directed by Robert Schwentke

Divergent will be released on March 21, but plans for the upcoming sequel is already underway.

Insurgent, will be directed by Robert Schwentke and is based upon the second novel in Veronica Roth's series about a unique future for the world.

Schwentke has worked with Lionsgate's Summit, the studio releasing Divergent before. He worked on Red, Flightplan and The Time Traveler's Wife.

Production will start in May with a release date set for March 2015 through the Summit label, Variety reported.

Divergent tells the story of Beatrice Prior and how she is living in a futuristic world in Chicago. The movie stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James and is being directed by Neil Burger. The upcoming film also stars Jai Courtney, Miles Teller and Kate Winslet, The LA Times reported.

Burger opted not to take over the next film late last year.

Summit and Lionsgate are both hoping that the Divergent franchise will have the same success as Twilight and Hunger Games.
