Drake doesn’t think Macklemore should have posted the text message he sent to Kendrick Lamar after the Grammys on Instagram.
After Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won the Grammy for Best Rap Album, in addition to others, Macklemore posted the private text message he sent to Lamar.
He captioned it, in part, “My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album... I'm honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO.”
Drake isn’t a fan of his public proclamation, telling Rolling Stone it was “wack as f-ck” and “cheap.” He also said if he was going to text Lamar, he should’ve sent one to all of the other nominees.
"I was like, 'You won. Why are you posting your text message? Just chill. Take your W, and if you feel you didn't deserve it, go get better — make better music,'" said Drake. "It felt cheap. It didn't feel genuine. Why do that? Why feel guilt? You think those guys would pay homage to you if they won?"
He went on to say, "This is how the world works: He made a brand of music that appealed to more people than me, Hov, Kanye and Kendrick. Whether people wanna say it's racial, or whether it's just the fact that he tapped into something we can't tap into. That's just how the cards fall. Own your sh-t."
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis also won Grammys Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. They will be touring this year in Australia and New Zealand, as well as China and Japan.
