First footage form Angelina Jolie's 'Unbroken' shown during Olympics (Video)

While it wasn’t a traditional trailer, Universal used the Olympics to show off the first footage of Unbroken, Angelina Jolie’s next effort as a director. Scenes of the movie were intercut with real footage of Louis Zamperini to tell his amazing story as an Olympian and World War II veteran.

The film is based on the bestseller by Laura Hillenbrand, who aslo wrote Seabisuit. It tells the story of how Zamperini, who ran at the 1939 Summer Olympics in Berlin, survived a plane crash in 1943 in the Pacific Ocean. He managed to live 47 days before he was picked up by the enemy Japanese and forced to work in a camp.

Zamperini is being played by Jack O’Connell and Garrett Hedlund co-stars.

In addition to Jolie, the film also has a stunning roster of talent behind the camera. Directors Joel and Ethan Coen wrote the script and Oscar nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins (Prisoner) is also working on the film.

The Olympics preview features a voice-over from NBC journalist Tom Brokaw. Unbroken is scheduled to hit theaters around Christmas 2014.
