The Writers Guild Award results are in, and the winners may surprise you, but likely not as many buzzing shows and films won, such as Her and Breaking Bad.
The Writers Guild Award honors are given out by the Writers Guild of America, who judge the scripts of the television and movie nominees. CBS News reports that many of the WGA winners from previous years have gone on to win in the same categories at the Academy Awards.
Breaking Bad took home the award in the TV/Radio Drama Series category, beating The Good Wife, Homeland, Netflix original series House of Cards and Mad Men.
Other winners were Spike Jonze for his indie hit Her in the Original Screenplay category and movie Captain Phillips in the Adapted Screenplay category. HBO comedy series Veep beat fan-favorite Orange is the New Black in the Comedy Series category.
In his WGA acceptance speech for Her, Jonze said, "It's a high honor coming from writers. In a way this is like an award for pain. A specific pain that writers know. The highs and lows of sitting there by yourself. I thank you guys for that," according to Variety.
The complete list of all the WGA award winners can be seen here.
