Julie Corey charged with killing friend and stealing the fetus

By Raquel Luster,

Julie Corey was convicted of the crime of killing her pregnant friend and stealing her fetus, pretending it was hers in Worecester, Massachusetts on Wednesday.

According to NY Daily News, Corey was convicted of beating, strangling and cutting the baby from her friend’s womb and pretending the baby was her daughter.

Corey, 39, had a miscarriage three months prior to the killing. Corey’s friend Darlene Haynes, 23, was eight months pregnant before being murdered in 2009.

Corey did not testify in court.

"It's probably the most horrific case this office has ever seen in terms of facts. This woman was killed for her baby,“ said Joseph Early Jr. District Attorney in a statement after the verdict was conclusive, according to ABC News.

The child, 4, lives with her biological dad.

At the Worcester Superior Court, the jurors deliberated 10 hours over the course of two days. Sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday.

Corey was found with the baby girl at a homeless shelter days after the incident.
