Krysten Ritter, who most recently starred in ABC’s cult sitcom Don’t Trust The B--- In Apt. 23, has signed on to star in an NBC pilot about astronauts. The project is being produced by Will Ferrell and his frequent collaborator, Adam McKay.
Mission Control was picked by by NBC last month. It is set in the 1960s and will be an Anchorman-style comedy, where a strong woman butts heads with a man who’s not prepared to work with a woman. The two astronauts are sent on a mission to the moon.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Ritter will play Mary, the strong, intelligent woman who thinks Mission control is sexist by having her work with Tom Stone.
It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s David Hornsby will be the showrunner. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the other members of the cast are Malcolm Barrett and Jonathan Slavin.
Ritter recently wrapped up work on Tim Burton’s Big Eyes and will be seen in the Veronica Mars movie, reprising her role from the show. She was last seen on Don’t Trust The B---- in Apt. 23, which only lasted two seasons.
The actress also confirmed the Mission Control news on Twitter and WhoSay. “I'm excited!! I'm gonna play a rocket scientist. You know, cuz I wanted to play something a little closer to who I am in real life,” she wrote.
