NBC's DC Comics adaptation of 'Constantine' casts its lead

Matt Ryan former 'Criminal Minds' actor will play the lead

NBC's upcoming adaptation of DC Comics Constantine has cast its leading man. Former Criminal Minds star Matt Ryan will be playing the lead in the upcoming project.

Ryan is known for his work on Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and The Tudors.

The DC comic was already turned into a movie but the TV show will focus on John Constantine, who has many personal struggles in his life and is haunted by the sins of his past. Constantine is thrust into the role of defending humanity from the gathering of darkness that surrounds him.

The show will be based on the Hellblazer graphic novels, The Hollywood Reporter added.

Dexter's Daniel Cerone will be writing the script and David Goyer who worked on Batman Begins will be an executive producer on the show. Neill Marshall will direct the pilot for the Warner Bros. Television drama. Marshall is known for his work on Game of Thrones, Deadline reported.

No release date has yet to be announced regarding the when the series will air.
