In about three weeks, the best of the best in Hollywood will be gathering on the red carpet for the 86th Academy Awards. Some categories on the radar that people are interested in are Best Actor, Actress and Director. Other fun categories include Best Song, Best Set Design, and in this case, Best Costume Design.
Costumes are extremely important in film. Just like the sets and props, the costumes really set the tone for whatever the film is about in whatever time period. In gorgeous period pieces, corsets and extravagant dresses reign supreme or in sci-fi films one might be impressed with the modern and technologically savvy costumes the actors sport.
Last year, the period piece Anna Karenina won best costume design. The aristocratic styles from the late 1800s created the perfect setting for the beautifully designed costumes by Jacqueline Durran. This year the costume designs up for nomination include five great films that featured particular looks and designs for their actors and actresses to rock throughout the movie.
Here is a list of the top five contenders up for the gold on March 2.
