Pharrell Williams is ‘Happy’ about his Oscar nominated song

By Julianne Mosher,

Pharrell Williams should be “Happy” that his single is a huge hit.

According to USA Today, the Despicable Me 2 hit recently reached No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100.

With 1.3 million digital downloads and 67 million video views, Williams' tune is preaching happiness to its listeners.

Off of the animated comedy’s soundtrack, “Happy” is nominated for an Oscar. The hit is only one of five tracks the producer composed for the album and is up against “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen.

Williams will also be performing the catchy tune at the Academy Awards on March 2.

“I’d be nervous if I were singing an braggadocios song,” he said. “It’s interesting to convey a message that people can use. It’s bigger than a music thing. It’s humbling, not scary.”

He also said that he is a child-at-heart, having been raised on Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes. “Working with [Despicable producer] Illumination was a dream come true,” he told USA Today.

Williams recently announced information about his new solo album, G I R L, set to release March 3.

Now that’s something to smile about.
