Pharrell Williams is set to release his newest solo album on March 3. The new album, G I R L, will be released on the Columbia Records label and will feature the song “Happy,” which is up for the Best Original Song Oscar.
According to Billboard, Williams said in a statement, "When Columbia Records presented me with the opportunity to make an album, three things came to mind. One was the sense of overwhelming honor that I felt when I realized that they were interested in partnering with me on the album that I had always dreamt of making. Two, it would have to feel festive and urgent. And three, I instantly knew it would be called G I R L. I hope you like it."
Williams has had an extraordinary career. He won a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2004 for Justified. In 2007, he won Best Rap Song for “Money Maker” with Ludacris. In 2014, he won again for Producer of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance, and Record of the Year for “Get Lucky” (with Daft Punk).
Williams will be performing the song, “Happy,” from the movie Despicable Me 2 at this year’s Academy Awards on March 2.
