Philip Seymour Hoffman’s alleged drug dealer reportedly had relationships with other fallen celebrities known for having addictions such as Amy Winehouse and artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Robert Vineberg, 57, a jazz musician, was arrested for heroin possession after the death of Hoffman. Vineberg is one of four people arrested in New York during the investigation into the actor’s untimely death.
According to TMZ, Vineberg was also good friends with well-known addicts before they succumbed to their addictions. He reportedly did heroin with Basquiat in the same Greenwich Village apartment Hoffman went to for drugs in the ‘80s before the artist died. He overdosed on heroin in 1988.
Vineberg, who is out on bail for heroin possession with intent to sell, also played saxophone with Amy Winehouse. Winehouse died of acute alcohol poisoning in 2011.
He has denied selling Hoffman the drugs that killed him and told his stepdaughter he hasn’t seen the Oscar-winning actor since November.
His stepdaughter told the Daily News, “He was very upset. He said, 'I wish he would have called me because I could have made sure if he was going to do something, someone was going to be there and he was going to be OK.”
