Puppeteer John Henson dies of heart attack at 48

John Henson, son of Jim Henson, passed away of a massive heart attack this Friday, Feb. 14, he was 48 years old.

A rep for the Jim Henson Company confirmed the news on its official Facebook page on Saturday. He was at his Saugerties, N.Y. home with his daughter at the time.

The post says, "It is with great sadness that we confirm that John Henson, son of Jim and Jane Henson and brother to Lisa, Cheryl, Brian and Heather, died at age 48 of a sudden massive heart attack."

The post continued, "John served as a shareholder and board member of The Jim Henson Company. He leaves two daughters, Katrina (15) and Sydney (10) and his wife Gyongyi. A private service is being planned."

USA Weekly reports John’s father, Jim Henson, also died at the early age of 53, from abscesses in his lungs. Kermit the Frog’s “Rainbow Connection” was played at his funeral.

John was a puppeteer for the Muppets and performed as Sweetums the ogre in a variety of films including The Muppets' Wizard of Oz and Muppet Treasure Island. He was also a board member of the Jim Henson Company, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Muppets fans and the world will mourn the loss of yet another great Henson.
