Retired lawyer killed after package explodes

A retired bankruptcy lawyer in Tennessee was killed on Monday when a package he received exploded.

According to CNN, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has said that John Setzer was killed Monday after "an unknown package exploded.” His wife, Marion Setzer, was critically injured in the explosion and transported to an area hospital.

Authorities say that a parcel bomb was sent to the couple’s rural home and the blast blew out windows and damaged several rooms inside.

USA Today has noted that investigators do not have a motive as to why someone would send the 74-year-old such a package.

"We do not respond to this kind of event every day," said Dewey Woody of the state fire marshal's bomb and arson division. "But when we do we have to take it like we do every day and process it very slowly."

A reward is being offered to anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
