The bodies of two Pittsburgh sisters of Iowa State Representative Mary Wolfe were found Friday afternoon in the basement of their home.
KDKA reported that the investigation began when sisters Susan Wolfe and Sarah Wolfe didn't show up for work.
Authorities found the vehicle of Sarah Wolfe parked almost a mile away from her home.
According to the Associated Press, medical examiners stated that both women died from a gunshot to the head.
Authorities have not yet discovered a motive for the murders and there seems to be no sign of forced entry.
Sarah Wolfe was a psychiatrist for Western Psychiatric Institute and her sister Susan was a teacher's aide at Hillel Academy.
"Sarah was known as a very compassionate, warm, caring and bright physician who was praised by patients, families, staff and colleagues," said Dr. Claudia M. Roth, CEO of Western Psychiatric.
Neighbors are in shock of the incident and mentioned the the area is normally a safe environment.
