Tyson Beckford’s 22-year-old nephew, Domonic Whilby, drove a stolen truck through a red light and hit a bus, killing the driver. The driver of the New York City bus was 49-year-old William Pena. He was pronounced dead around 5:30 a.m.

Beckford and Whilby were attending a birthday party for model, Shanina Shaik, close to where the truck was stolen, and another two blocks from the crash site. Whilby reportedly stole the truck in the garage of the Maritime Hotel.

After the crash, Whilby was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was tested for alcohol and drugs, according to NY Daily News.

According to CBS, MTA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Thomas F. Prendergast said in a statement that, “The entire MTA mourns the tragic loss of Mr. Pena, especially his colleagues at the Michael J. Quill Bus Depot in Manhattan. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Pena’s family, and we are working closely with law enforcement to ensure the perpetrator of this crime is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Pena is survived by a wife and 14-year-old daughter.
