Two-time Oscar nominee Viola Davis has agreed to take on her first regular television project, an ABC drama produced by Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes.
The project is titled How to Get Away With Murder, notes TheWrap. In it, Davis will star as Annalise Dewitt, a criminal defense professor who becomes linked to a murder scheme that could change her university and the ambitious students she teaches.
This is one of the biggest pilot castings of the current season, as it is Davis’ first regular television role, notes Deadline. The actress is best known for her passionate Oscar nominated performances in Doubt and The Help. She recently appeared in Prisoners and Ender’s Game. Davis does have a few recurring television roles to her name, including appearances on Law & Order: SVU and The United States of Tara.
How To Get Away with Murder was written by Peter Nowalk and will be produced by ABC Studios and Shondaland. The executive producers are Nowalk, Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
Rhimes certainly has a knack for attracting a-list talent for her projects. Her Scandal stars Kerry Washington in the lead role.
