AMC’s horror drama The Walking Dead continues to keep viewers at the edge of their seats as the zombie apocalypse has taken over all humanity. Norman Reedus, who plays the role of Daryl Dixon, has become a fan favorite with his charismatic, moody, surly, and strong character.
With the fourth season of The Walking Dead unfolding Reedus talked about the show and his role on the talk show on LIVE with Kelly and Michael. Thus far Reedus’ character is yet to make a love connection. Fans have voiced their opinions and paired Reedus with the character they think is best fit. Talk show host Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan tried to find the answer to the lingering question.
When asked about the possibility of Dixon finding love soon, Reedus told Strahan, "I don't know, you know, I'm very hesitant. I'm not really allowed to tell you. The thing about that is, I really want to play him sort of- he's not the type of guy that's gonna like, throw you up against the tree in the moonlight. I want him to be awkward as possible, so um, I mean, once that happens, it happens. You can't go backwards. So, I really want the characters to earn that."
Reedus’ character has been paired with Beth, Michonne, and he has joked about being paired with Glenn. Many fans point to Carol, who is played by Melissa McBride, as the best choice for Dixon’s future love interest. Reedus disagrees with the pairing of the two characters.
He told the New York Post, “They’re both really damaged people. But I don’t know, [Daryl] hasn’t hooked up with anyone at this point. It is the end of the world, and I think you get love where you can find it.”
In the interview Ripa commented on the fact she was surprised that people had the time to “make love” in the mist of a zombie apocalypse.
Reedus wittily replied "Yeah, and the fact that we don't have showers and stuff like that."
When Reedus is in makeup prep he tells the makeup artists that he wants the grungy dirty appearance to stand out to the viewers to the point that they think they can “smell” him.
To embrace that unkempt appearance to the fullest Reedus said, “Sometimes I steal the little bags of dirt so I can apply more when no one’s looking.”
