The Amazing Spider-Man 4, which Sony Pictures has already announced, will now be looking for a new director. Current director of The Amazing Spider-Man, Marc Webb, will not be directing the fourth installment of the franchise.

Webb will be leaving the franchise after the third Amazing film is released.

During an event at South By Southwest, Webb explained why he would be stepping away from the franchise at this time, The Daily Beast reports.

"I'd like to be involved as a consultant. I've already talked to these guys about it, but in terms of directing it, that will close out my tenure. I've had so much fun doing it, but after the third movie, it'll be the time to find something else," said Webb.

Sony has been very vocal about the expansion of the Spider-Man universe, saying that they would be releasing a new film every year, including villain spin-offs which will tell the story of Venom and Sinster Six, Contact Music reported.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released May 2 of this year. Watch the trailer here:
