Former Shield actor Michael Chiklis is joining the American Horror Story family. The Emmy winner will star in this fall’s Freak Show season.
The casting was announced during the show’s PaleyFest panel on Friday. According to TheWrap, co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed that Chiklis will play the father of Evan Peters’ character, who is also Kathy Bates’ character’s ex-husband.
Although Jessica Lange did not make it to the panel, Chiklis, Bates, Sarah Paulson and Gabourey Sidibe were all there. Chiklis said he was “thrilled” to join the show, adding, “It's going to be crazy, and we're going to scare you.”
Murphy said that Chiklis is “somebody I have loved for many, many years and have courted for many years.”
Murphy announced earlier this week that the fourth season of AHS will be called Freak Show. Later, Entertainment Weekly revealed that the show will be set in Jupiter, Fla. in 1950, with Lange playing a German expatriate managing a freak show.
Angela Bassett and Frances Conroy are also returning, with Denis O’Hare and Emma Roberts in talks. Filming will take place in New Orleans.
For Chiklis, this is a return to FX, the home of The Shield. He won both a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his role on the cop drama. He recently appeared in the short-lived shows No Ordinary Family and Vegas.
