Antonio Cromartie gets released by the New York Jets

By Shaunice Conyers,

NFL Cornerback Antonio Cromartie has been released by the New York Jets.

ESPN reports that by releasing Cromartie, the Jets are saving $9.5 million, which they can now use to seek a big-name free agent cornerback. Reportedly, the Jets have already been in contact with Alterraun Verner, who plays for the Tennessee Titans.

Even though he appeared in this year's Pro Bowl, Cromartie had a bad season for the Jets last year, yet the Jets' head coach, Rex Ryan, praises Cromartie for being a hard worker and one of the best players he has ever coached. Ryan stated, "He was willing to contribute wherever the team needed him to win games, be it defense, special teams or offense."

USA Today discloses how Cromartie posted a message on Twitter saying he was thankful to the Jets for all they have done for him.

However, Cromartie's departure might not be the only one made by the Jets. Quarterback Mark Sanchez and wide receiver Santonio Holmes will also most likely be let go due to their high salaries.
